Yacht and private jet interior supplies: stocking when you cannot run to the shop

On a superyacht or a private jet, the interior team cannot walk to a supplier when something runs out. Storage is tight, the next port may be days away, and owners and guests expect the same products every trip. Good planning matters more than in a hotel.

The problems crews describe

Dockwalk, a magazine for yacht crew, describes stews running out mid-trip, reserve stock hidden in small lockers and manual counts that are easy to get wrong. It advises keeping brand names and item numbers so replacements match. SuperyachtNews notes that generic preference sheets lead to rushed, air-freighted, over-packaged orders, and that remote resupply often gets improvised.

Par levels when space is the limit

  1. List every interior consumable: amenities, linen, towels, tableware, cleaning products, guest gifts.
  2. Estimate use per guest per day and the longest stretch between resupply points.
  3. Set a par for that stretch plus a margin, then check it fits the lockers. If it does not, choose more compact formats: refill bottles instead of many small items, folded or vacuum-packed linen.
  4. Record the exact product, size and supplier for each item.

Before the season, and during it

  • Before the season: order the long-life core stock: linen, towels, tableware, branded items. Custom or logoed products need weeks of production, so order them first.
  • During the season: top up fast-moving consumables at planned ports. Know which suppliers can deliver to the marina or agent, and how long it takes.

Private jets: a tighter window

Cabin crews work with even less space and very short notice. For catering, ePlaneAI reports that orders usually need 24 to 48 hours of notice, more for complex requests, with delivery to the terminal well before departure. Cabin supplies such as linen, hot towels, amenity kits and tableware should be kept on board or at base in fixed quantities, checked after every flight.

Specifications that matter at sea and in the air

Item Check
Linen and towels Washable on board, quick drying, consistent colour for reorders
Amenities Compact formats, leak-proof closures, same scent as the owner's standard
Tableware Breakage resistance, stackability, storage racks
Hot and cold towels Individually packed refreshing towels or reusable towels with a warmer

Getting supplies delivered to a port or airport

Give the supplier the delivery address of the agent, marina or FBO, the vessel or aircraft name, the date by which the goods must arrive and a contact on site. Group items from the same supplier to save on transport.
